Every year since the pandemic, Buddies4Math has run virtual summer sessions where we design our own modules, card, and board games involving arts & crafts, music, science, and more. Through the activities we design in the arts & crafts module, we hope to combine tactile arts and crafts with math concepts not typically featured in our usual games.
Towntastic was developed as a creative, hands-on approach to combining area and perimeter, a rare concept in our other games, with drawing.

Students create city layouts with buildings based on specific dimensions. These dimensions, based on math facts, allow students to plan out locations of their own shopping malls, pet stores, or whatever establishment they desire.
This module has been introduced at each elementary school site and we have iterated and improved the game based on student feedback. We are excited to continue rotating Towntastic with our other math activities during the school year.
